Breaking Down the Process & How Aeroseal Works
From preparation to pretesting the leakage in your ducts and all the way to handing you your Aeroseal certificate
.
1. Preparation of the ductwork We block all the supply and return registers with special foam plugs to force the air to escape only through the cracks and openings. By forcing the air to escape through the cracks and openings we are able to measure the exact amount of air loss from the ductwork. This allows us to seal all the leaking areas of the ductwork.
We make a small access point, which we cut with our precision tools, into the supply or return duct. A temporary collar is installed with our plastic tubing for the injection of the sealant. We protect the A/C or heat pump coil, fan motor and furnace by blocking it with a foam plug to prevent sealant particles from entering this part of your system.
The next step of the process is to pretest and that is done by blowing air into the ductwork in while measuring the airflow and pressures. With our computer and the calibrated sensors installed in the opening of the ductwork we can determine the amount of air loss since the air is leaking through the cracks and openings. This gives us a benchmark, calculated in square inches of the existing duct leakage prior to sealing. We will use this to determine how much improvement the process has accomplished and to generate the final sealing report.
2. Pretest Your Ductwork Once the system is properly prepared the Aeroseal machine is connected to the duct work using an expandable air tube.
The Diagnostic pre-test will determine the exact amount of air leakage in total ductwork. Typical duct leakage detected in a home is between 30-40%. After, we inject the non-toxic, UL tested and approved, Aeroseal sealant into the ductwork. As the sealant exits your ductwork through leaks it begins to collect on the edge of the holes until the leak is completely sealed. Aeroseal can seal leaks up to 5/8ths of an inch.
3. Seal Your Ductwork Small aeroseal particles are injected and kept suspended in the airflow by continuous air movement.
The aerosol particles begin collecting on the edges of openings and cracks in your duct work and seal your leaky ductwork from the inside. This entire process is computer controlled, results are monitored in real time showing you just how effective the Aeroseal process is. Ducts are sealed with only 1 to 2 oz. of sealant material.
